Lexical Phonology and Speech Style: Using a Model to Test a Theory

This paper presents LexPhon, a c o m p u t a t i o n a l f r a m e w o r k for m o d e l l i n g segmenta l aspects of Lexica l P h o n o l o g y (LP). After describing the LexPhon system and indicat ing how it may be set to represent a l t e r n a t i v e l a n g u a g e descriptions within LP, its potential application in the characterisation of s p e e c h s t y l e c o n t r a s t s is demonstrated through a smal l -scale study.
